Charter Overview

La Paz, Baja Sur, is a fascinating two-hour drive from the world-famous Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. La Paz is the great undiscovered fishing area of the Sea of Cortez. (Gulf of California). The Baja peninsula is over a thousand miles long. It begins just below San Diego and projects almost straight south into tropical waters. Cabo is located at the southern Pacific tip. La Paz, the capital of Baja Sur, is located on the opposite side of the narrow Baja peninsula. The inland sea is a gigantic fish trap. Here the waters are typically more calm, warmer, and are not fished as heavily as offshore of the Cabo area.

Fish are abundant throughout the inland sea, and fishing is available year-round. Whether it’s dorado, yellowtail, tuna, sailfish, wahoo, grouper, snapper, marlin, skipjack, roosterfish, sea bass, sierras, etc., La Paz is a premier spot for fishing these varieties. FURTHERMORE, the fishing areas we frequent are considered fully sustainable at current sports fishing levels! This is a huge difference from much of the world’s fishing locations.

The waters extending up inside the Baja peninsula are some of the most active in the world for sea life. From the inside southern tip of the Baja and extending straight north to Loreto, are 23 deserted islands that serve as fishing meccas. Outside these island perimeters are reefs, shoals, and corals. Just beyond, are the deep blue waters that are home to some of the best and most desired sport fishing species on the planet!

Lucky One, our refurbished walk around Shamrock, with tuna tower, fighting chair, outriggers, bait tank, cuddy cabin, and bathroom, serves up to five fishers. Lucky One comes with a fishing assistant-deckhand, in addition to a skilled and accomplished captain. This is a serious deep-sea fishing boat. It comes with a box lunch, snacks, bait, (when available), tackle, all kinds of lures, jigs, feathers, etc., and bottled water. It also comes with a cooler full of ice, sodas, and beer.

International, heavy duty, top of the line rods and reels for Marlin and Sailfish. We also have a tuna rod and reel and two Penn Senator rod and reels for Dorado, Wahoo, and all around deep sea fishing.

Driving Instructions From Cabo to La Paz

Coming from anywhere along the Cabo corridor, the easiest way to Marina Palmira is to take Highway 1 to Todos Santos. Go around Todos Santos via the Bypass road and continue on to La Paz. If you are coming from Los Barriles, take the road to La Paz, it will merge into the main road coming from Cabo.

When you reach La Paz, continue on the main road. It’s a few miles to downtown. Keep going and turn left at 5 February. Proceed straight towards the bay. At the last signal turn right. You are now on Alvaro Obregon, the road along the bay, which in about a mile will run parallel to the beach and bay. This area is known as the Malecon. (The "Malecon," in any Spanish-speaking country, means roughly: the esplanade along the water’s edge.)

Continue along the beach road about two miles passing through the remarkable waterfront area, until you see Marina Palmira on your left. At this point, the road has just divided into four lanes. Take the first turn across the green bicycle lane in the middle of the road. If you miss the turn, go slightly past the marina and take the one-lane turnaround and head back to the first entry area. There are three entries into the marina. The first one you come to is the closest to the boat. Technically, you can go into any of them, park and walk to the dock, but it is quicker to go back to the first entry area and double back, park in front of the Marine Waterfront Hotel, and walk straight through their complex to Captains Marina Bar. (It takes less than a minute.) It is directly across from the Dock 5 gate. Captains’ Marina Bar, is a Baja Charters facility where we meet with guests before boarding.

The parking is free in front of the hotel and at the south end of the marina. All the parking around the marina is safe and well protected.
